The Author Bio:
Rebecca Monahan has spent her entire life living in New Jersey, but never in the same town. She’s moved times than she’d like to admit. When she was in the fifth grade, her family finally settled down in the middle of nowhere, where the number of cows outnumbered the people. (Not really but we can pretend). In the third grade, she had her first experience with writing. The story that started it all: When Dad’s Car Caught Fire! (Her Dad has the only handwritten copy). Ever since then, she’s been obsessed with writing and reading. Now she lives with her husband and a house full of furry critters, who keep her on her toes, in a cozy Cape house, with her own built in bookshelves.
November 2010 she decided to take part of NaNoWriMo (which you should totally check out). It’s where she started writing her current novel. It’s still in the beginning stages, but she hopes to find an agent soon. She writes Paranormal YA, but would like to try other YA genres.
The Bullet Bio:
- I went to school for Elementary Education and English. (Still hoping to find a job, but the market is stuff in NJ right now).
- I have a younger brother and sister.
- When not reading or writing, I love to cook and bake.
- I’m obsessed with taking cute pictures of my furry babies.
- I love chocolate, especially if it’s Snickers, Reese’s Peanut Butter cup, or Kit Kats.
- Nothing is EVER too sour for me. When I finish a pack of Sour Patch Kids, I always eat the sour sugar on the bottom.
- I married my kinda-sorta High School Sweetheart after being together for seven years.
- I’m a night person. I easily stay up till two or three. I am definitely NOT a morning person. Even if I go to bed at ten, I struggle waking up.
- I can’t eat anything spicy. Sometimes pepper is too much!!
- I read very quickly. I’m known to read a book in less than 24 hours, not falling asleep. *Cough* Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire*
- When I was a kid, I would constantly sneak a flashlight into my room so I could hide under the covers and read late into the night after I was told to go to sleep.
- When I was growing up, my dream job was to be a Marine Biologist. If I ever had the chance to become one, I wouldn’t hesitate.
- I constantly reread books, especially if the characters call to me.
- I have a kindle, but that doesn’t stop me from buying real books. Don’t you just love smelling the pages of a new book?
- I tend to keep my hair long. My hair grows too fast to have any short hairstyle. Believe me, I tried it and with in a month is was out of control.
- Every year or two years, I donate my hair to Locks-of-Love, something that I’ve done ever since I was little.
- I taught myself to drive stick, and I’m very proud of myself!
- I enjoy painting my toenails outrageously bright colors.
- I have a tattoo on my foot of music notes, which is dedicated to my Grandpa.
A Prompt I did in College:
Writing fiction come naturally to me. I think it’s because I’m constantly reading. I have written poetry and non-fiction, but fiction comes easier to me. It’s almost like I just have a bunch of characters living in my head, and the only way that I can get them to quit nagging me is if I write them down. It’s either that or I talk to myself, which might make me seem crazy.
I really don’t have a set time where I am able to write better than another time. I just write when an idea pops into my head, and the ideas, they just keep coming. For example I could be doing something completely random at work, like toasting a bun, when I get a great idea for a story. Most of the time I’m not able to write my ideas, because that wouldn’t be the best thing to do in the middle of making someone’s food. If I can get a free second, I usually take the paper we wrap the sandwiches in and write a key word to help me remember the story. When I get a chance afterwards, I look at my note and see what kind of story I can come up with.
As for where I do my best writing, it all depends. During the summer I enjoying sitting on the beach or on the deck. Also when it rains I seem to be more creative than on sunny days. Other than that, I write wherever I am and whenever I can. I’m not too picky, I guess.
I’ve been writing seriously since about the third grade. I wrote my first story about my dad’s red Ford Escort catching on fire and the lady who didn’t know how to dial 9-1-1. I took a creative writing class in high school, but since college I have found it difficult to find time to sit down and write. For the past couple of years I have been working on a story that has a lot of potential, except for the fact that I am currently stumped. The story took a nasty turn, and I had to put it down for a while to try to think of some new ideas. But since I hit that snag, I haven’t been able to find a cure for my story. I would eventually like to finish the story, and maybe get it published. But right now I need to spark the creative side in me, so that I can figure out what to do with it.
